2025Bury Yourself in the Sainsbury Archive
The Sainsbury Archive documents the history of Sainsbury’s — the UK’s second-largest supermarket chain — from its foundation in Drury Lane in 1869 to now. It encompasses “more than 700 linear metres of shelving” (which is an interesting way of measuring a collection) and includes “documents, objects (ranging from food preparation and testing equipment, to product packaging and staff uniforms), photographs and audiovisual material”. While the physical collection resides at the London Museum Docklands, the online archive offers an expansive treasure trove of vintage British design.
