Chicago-style Type

Portillo’s, the popular Chicago-based fast food chain serving Italian beef, Chicago-style hot dogs, and chocolate cake shakes, now has its own proprietary type family called Tillo Type, designed by Avondale Type Co., also a Chicago institution. Consisting of a Roman and Italic, the excellent family is based on “hand-painted signs, neighborhood scripts, and decades of Chicago grit” but one terrible thing about it is that none of us can license it.
