A strong shot of coffee is served along with a couple of very different French experiences to start and end this week’s Friday Likes, with work from Paris and Charleston. Pilo by studio 5.5 Pilo is a youth hostel in Lyon, France (with two more locations opening soon in Paris and Tours) that is as much an affordable lodging stay as it is a full living, working, and dining experience. The identity, designed by Paris-based studio 5.5, goes for a fluffy aesthetic in unexpected ways, starting with a custom typeface that looks like little pillows as the ink traps give the appearance of a folded pillow. The rounded sans serif approach also helps in giving it that fluffy softness. For the logo, the “i” in “PiLO” is the only lowercase character and it adds a subtle touch of playfulness. The n
