2022Going through a Rough Patch
In 2019, two Kroger employees were fired because they refused to wear an apron with a rainbow heart patch that referenced a bunch of feel-good corporate messaging but that they interpreted as representing a show of support of the LGBTQ community which went against their religious beliefs. Last week Kroger agreed to pay $180,000 to settle a religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of the two employees. This would make sense if the patch even remotely resembled any kind of pride visuals, which it doesn’t.
