Established in 1936 (originally as the Palestine Philharmonic Orchestra as it was started before the creation of the State of Israel in 1948), the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) is, as its name well implies, the main symphony orchestra of Israel. Based in Tel-Aviv and playing in the city’s largest concert hall, the Heichal HaTarbut that sits 2,400-plus people, the orchestra gives more than 130 performances each year in Israel to their 26,000 subscribers, where 12 different concert series are presented in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.
