New Logo and Identity for Oslo Philharmonic by Metric
Established in 1919 — although it can trace its roots back to 1871, when Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen founded the Christiania Musikerforening (Christiania Musical Association) at a time when Oslo went by the name of Christiania — the Oslo Philharmonic is a symphony orchestra based in Oslo, Norway. With 108 musicians (as of this writing), the orchestra gives an average of sixty to seventy symphonic concerts annually from its permanent home in the Oslo Concert Hall along with an extensive international touring schedule. A big part of the institution’s success and renown has been attributed to Mariss Jansons, its conductor from 1979 to 2002, who took apart and rebuilt the entire orchestra to great success, including securing a major orchestral contract with music label EMI.
