Raising the Steaks
Earlier this year, this sign popped up in a few of the design feeds I follow and for the longest time I’ve been meaning to find out more about it because the premise — a sign shared by a butcher and a skate shop — was too good to be true and the answer is yes and no. Located on rue Ange-Guépin in Nantes, France, the sign does indeed exist as can be seen in this Google Street View but it was not a collaboration between the two shops. Rather, it was part of an ongoing public art exhibit called Voyage à Nantes that, among other efforts, it offers local businesses a chance to have artists reinterpret their signage and in 2015, Julien Amouroux, who works under the pseudonym Le Gentil Garçon, was the one that came up with this brilliant, witty idea. Chapeau.
