“That Blue” in Pigment Form

Everybody’s favorite hue of blue, That Blue, is beginning to become commercially available for use in artists’ materials after the United States Environmental Protection Agency approved its use in May of 2020. The pigment, named “YInMn Blue”, was discovered in 2009 — the first new blue discovered in 200 years — at an Oregon State University lab led by chemist, Dr. Mas Subramanian. The story recently showed up on The New York Times and has reignited interest in That Blue.
