Thought for Food
First published in 1941, Gourmet was a monthly magazine devoted to food and wine. Owned by Condé Nast, the magazine ran until November 2009 (pictured) when it ceased publication but the parent company continued to use the brand name for book and television programming. However, the trademark registration for “Gourmet” lapsed in 2021 and this year, five worker-owners took over the name, citing that “a certain media empire failed to maintain the trademark, and so it is our food magazine now”. Reincarnating in newsletter form (and awaiting the inevitable lawsuit because media empires are gonna media-empire), Gourmet is dishing out fresh new content and serving it with a slightly unhinged look.
