1920Bracelet
The use of carved hardstone links - in this case black onyx - creates an opulent effect, richly combined with ridged panels of gold set with glowing carnelian. Hardstone links were popular in bracelets during the 1920s but their fragility and their vulnerable position on the wrist means that many have not survived.
Bracelet · France · ca. 1920-1930. Gold, onyx and carnelian. By Unknown. Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
