1925Scarf
This printed silk scarf was probably made in France about 1925. Its linear pattern resembles Sonia Delaunay’s simultané (‘simultaneous’) dress fabrics, which were sold at the Paris Exhibition of Decorative Arts of 1925. These carried geometric designs such as blocks, stripes or waves in mainly primary colours. The designs were based on theories about the combinations of different hues and the effect of bodily movement on the appearance of clothing.
