The Cleveland Guardians roller derby team, established in 2013, has filed a lawsuit against the Cleveland Guardians MLB team, which changed its name from Cleveland Indians earlier this year. The lawsuit states that the baseball team was fully aware of the name conflict and offered a very low sum of money to buy the name and domain, which the roller derby team declined. The lawsuit also mentions that the baseball team filed its trademark application paperwork in the African island nation of Mauritius as a way to keep it under wraps, which is as sketchy as it gets (although possibly common practice I was unaware of). You can see the full lawsuit here.
