Formula 1, Four Years Later
Originally ReviewedNovember 2017 Logo. When, in 2017, the then new logo for Formula 1 dropped it was at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last race of the season. It feels fitting, now that the 2021 season has just started, we take a look back at how the brand has evolved in the meantime. Back in 2017, the briefing for the London, UK, office of Wieden + Kennedy was deceivingly simple: “Formula 1 needed a new visual identity to signal its new era and reposition the sport as a global media and entertainment brand.” Something that could play the part across all platforms. And play it with a bang. Initial response to the rebranding felt tepid. While fans missed the old iconic logo, Armin himself wrote: “The new logo doesn’t yet instantly (or clearly) scream ‘F1!’ but after one or two s
