2020Jägermeister Cross-promotion
The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property tried to restrict Jägermeister’s application to use its well known antler-with-cross imagery in applications beyond its bottles and apparel because it claimed the image — based on the eighth-century legend of St. Hubertus — was offensive to the religious leanings of some consumers. Judges at the Federal Administrative Court in St Gallen rejected the claim and Jägermeister can proceed to use the image for all promotional activities and products in Switzerland including cosmetics, mobile phones, or telecommunications services. The most troubling thing here is who would buy a Jägermeister cosmetic?
