PlayStation Logo Sound Creator Passes Away

Tohru Okada, keyboardist and founding member of the cult Japanese band Moonriders, passed away last week at age 73. TIL he created the sound that accompanies the PlayStation logo. I tried to find more information about how the sound came to be but there was nothing. It’s amazing how embedded that sound is in most of our subconscious. Just reading “PlayStation logo sound” makes it play in my head instantly. Okada probably never imagined what an unexpected and long-lasting contribution that sound would be.
