Sucks to B U
Waco, TX-based Baylor University has filed a lawsuit against the Trustees of Boston University for the university’s use of an interlocked “BU” monogram similar to the one Baylor had first used in 1912 and registered in 1987. In 1988 the two universities had actually reached an agreement that Baylor would use the interlocking design while Boston would use a side-by-side “BU” lock-up like the one used by its athletics teams. In 2018, some items in the Boston University shop featured an interlocked “BU” design and Baylor has been trying to get them to stop since then to no avail, leaving them with no option but to sue. (Maybe you want to buy this water bottle before it gets destroyed if the law rules in favor of Baylor… could be worth, like, two dollars more in fifty years.)
