The Country Formerly known as Turkey

Starting in January of this year, the Communications Directorate of Turkey began an effort to “rebrand” the country as Türkiye — its original Turkish name — with a global ad campaign and earlier this month it achieved a significant victory with the United Nations recognizing the name change. According to the video at the link, the association to the Thanksgiving bird was part of the impetus to not wanting to be called Turkey anymore.
