Oops, They Did it Again

The NFL’s Washington Commanders — previously the Washington Redskins until enough pressure was felt by the team to change its name in 2020 — have resorted once again to a Native American reference, now in the form of a spear that shoots across their “W” monogram as part of a third, alternate uniform (dubbed the “Hail Raiser”) for the 2026 season. “It is time”, part of a statement from the Association on American Indian Affairs reads, “to stop repeating this cycle and listen to Native Peoples who have been clear, consistent, and unwavering on this issue: We are not your mascot.”
