No connecting thread this week, other than perhaps some shared element of joy, with work from New York, Oslo, and Graz. Chinah by Base Chinah is a fast-casual restaurant with two locations — one in New Jersey, one in New York — specializing in healthy and tasty lunch meals featuring more traditional and less Americanized Chinese dishes or, in their words, “made from family recipes and prepared how the food was originally intended, grandma’s way”. The identity, designed by the New York office of Base, replaces a previously timid and generic logo with a bold, confident, and eccentric new logo that defies categorization. A chunky, unicase, monospaced sans serif with counterspaces that look like serif stems. It’s super weird, super delightful, and manages to do a lot visually
