Mexico coming in strong with some packaging this week, with work from Guadalajara (times two) and Mexico City. Mayawell by Heavy Mayawell is a Mexican-owned, Austin-based beverage company offering prebiotic soda made with organic, hand-harvested agave from México to naturally sweeten the drinks and keep your healthy gut bacteria in check. The packaging, designed by Guadalajara, Mexico-based Heavy, captures Mexican pre-Hispanic roots in a contemporary way through a combination of illustrations that depict common elements from those cultures — like jaguars, serpents, and birds — and some blocky typography that although it did not obviously exist at the time, the execution has a pyramid-esque construction.
