Take a shot every time I say “funky” in this post as a trio of funky, small-batch, artisanal, and hand-crafted products come together this week, with work from Philadelphia, Guadalajara, and Brooklyn. Better Late by Mitch Wiesen Better Late is a small-batch amaro — an Italian herbal liqueur commonly consumed as an after-dinner digestif — hand-crfated in Los Angeles by two Italian East Coasters. (The name of the product is a fun play on “amaro”, which means “bitter” in Italian.) The packaging, designed by Philadelphia, PA-based Mitch Wiesen, conveys the small-batch-ed- and hand-crafted-ness of the liqueur with a low-fi, no-pretense design featuring a condensed, reverse-contrast sans serif diagonally placed along the label.
