A playful yet sophisticated collection of projects this week, with work from Helsinki, Melbourne, and somewhere in Brazil. Haven by Studio Marina Veziko Haven is a bleach-free, toxin-free brand of toilet paper available in the U.S. made with 100% organic bamboo produced with the same care and consideration as skincare. The packaging, designed by Helsinki, Finland-based Studio Marina Veziko, takes a cue from the bamboo paper’s warm and soft brown tones to deliver an earthy system deployed through kraft boxes printed with white ink, which always yields a soft, delicate appearance. On the boxes, a lovely flared serif logo further sets the tone for a sophisticated butt-wiping experience and the supporting typography is a bold combination of serif and sans serif. It’s rare to see photography on kraft boxes and I’m unsure whether I like this particular use as the boxes start to feel a little crowded. A secondary lavender-ish color looks great on the tissue paper used to wrap each roll and while I may never find as much delight in bamboo paper as this guy — full video here — Haven does make a strong case for giving it a go. See full project LuckyChap by Pop & Pac Studio LuckyChap is a film and TV production company founded in 2014 by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr that, among others, produced Barbie. The identity, designed by Melbourne, Australia-based Pop & Pac Studio, introduces a relatively simple logo with the name typeset in a sans serif with the “u” in an effusive script that, if you squint and use your imagination, is also meant to be an “lc” monogram — it’s a stretch but, yeah, it’s there. The “U”/“lc” then becomes a signature element throughout the applications — all in a lovely color palette of plum, magenta, and baby pink — and, as the main draw of this project, it is cleverly used as a holding device for a note card through a strategic diecut on a bigger piece of paper. It’s a real treat
