Handle with Care

In the recent redesign of the University of Virginia Athletics logos, two of the marks featured a curvy detail on the handle of the sabres that mimics the design of the Serpentine Walls found on the grounds of the university but the history of those walls isn’t pleasant: “the original eight-foot-high walls were constructed to mask the institution of slavery and enslaved laborers from public view”. UVA has re-issued the two marks without that element.
