2024Minnesota is Loony for its North Star
The State of Minnesota has finally adopted a new flag and seal that replace the image established in 1858 that, among other themes, conveys “the taming of the wilderness by the state’s early pioneers”, which, when shown in its early illustrations, looks like a pioneer, rifle at the ready, taking over the original tribes’ land as the latter runs away. Not a good look. The new seal and flag design was literally designed by committee and the result of a months-long process. The new logo brings to life the state motto of L’Étoile du Nord (French for “The Star of the North”) and the seal adopts the state’s bird, the loon.
