Kimberly-Clark began in 1872 as a paper mill operator in Neehah, Wisconsin. They spent the next century and a half alternating between building more paper mills and finding new uses for paper. Being a mill operator in 19th century America, the company had already achieved the sort of economic dominance where towns were being renamed after the founder.
