2022No Longer a-okay
The mascot of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s athletics teams, Herbie Husker, introduced in 1974, has been recently modified to remove his original “a-okay” hand gesture. Added two years ago to the Anti-Defamation League’s hate symbol database, the gesture has come to stand for “White Power”. Herbie Husker now gestures “we’re number one”.
