Taco Tuesday™

CNN highlights Gregory Gregory, owner of Gregory’s Restaurant & Bar in Somers Point, NJ, which is the last remaining owner of a trademark for “Taco Tuesday”, a phrase they have been using since 1979 when they first started serving tacos on Tuesdays and trademarked in 1982. They have since sold more than 2 million tacos. Taco John’s, a fast food restaurant chain with 380 restaurants in about 22 states, owned the trademark in all other states than New Jersey until this Summer when it abandoned it because it did not want to go toe-to-toe with Taco Bell, who, in May, initiated an effort to free “Taco Tuesday” (aka cancel the existing trademark registrations at the USPTO) so that, they too, could use the phrase in their marketing.
