Without a premeditated desire to choose only Asian restaurants, we have three Asian restaurant identities this week with work from Chihuahua, Vancouver, and Brooklyn. Bōru by Folklore Bōru is a sushi restaurant in Chihuahua, Mexico, that also specializes in giant rice balls stuffed with sushi stuff, which is a nice metaphor for the restaurant’s identity by local firm Folklore: They have stuffed Asian references in a funky vernacular tone of voice filled to the brim with crappy (on purpose) illustrations of Pokémons, Kaiju, and who-knows-what-else. It has a lowbrow vibe but with a strong grid holding it all together. The logo is cool and by being solid, bold shapes it stands out from all the stuff around it and helps anchor all the wackiness.
