Some fun and distinct — two of them with strong hints of decades past — typography this week with work from Brooklyn, London, and Buenos Aires. La Palma by Abraham Lule La Palma is a beachfront rum bar in Bondi Beach, near Sydney, Australia, that has been created as an ode to 1920s and 1930s-era Havana, Cuba. The identity, designed by Brooklyn, NY-based Abraham Lule — who is steadfastly becoming one of my favorite designers — indirectly transports us to that time and place through a collection of stunning bits of typography that evoke the classiness of that era. A fictitious “La Palma” hotel serves as a fun illustration to create a sense of place that makes one imagine you are sitting in that hotel, sipping mojitos with a linen shirt and looking all classy. Barring that reality
