Some fairly expressive and textural projects this week, with work from Guadalajara, Medellín, and Londrina. Señor Gonzales by Heavy Señor Gonzales is a Mexican restaurant in Dubai with a brick and mortar location as well as a much smaller roaming structure for pop-ups (some would call it a food truck, except it’s missing the truck part). The identity, designed by Guadalajara, Mexico-based Heavy, leans a little heavy on some visual clichés to denote Mexican-ness — the rooster, the mariachi boots, and the cacti — but it doesn’t come across as stereotypical in any way thanks to the fun style of the illustrations and the very nice typographic treatments that accompany them, giving the identity a festive aesthetic.
