2025Good Night, and Good Yuk
TIL about Mr. Yuk, the first recognized poison prevention/poison center awareness symbol in the U.S. created to raise awareness that poison centers are available 24 hours-a-day, every day of the year to assist in the management of poisoning emergencies and to provide poison information as well as to warn children of poisonous products. A trademark owned by UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the graphic was designed by Richard J. Garber, who passed away this past December 30, while he worked at public relations and advertising firm, Vic Maitland & Associates and became adopted by poison centers around the country. A 1970s animated PSA cemented Mr. Yuk’s popularity.
