Formed in 1999, Team GB is the unified name for all the various sports teams under the care of the British Olympic Association (BOA), which is the National Olympic Committee for the United Kingdom Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team. So, yeah, Team GB is shorter, easier, and more engaging as the public-facing team name to cheer for when competing in international events — its core mission is to “unite and inspire the nation through the power of Olympic sport”.
