Introduced in 1966, Slurpee is a carbonated, frozen slush drink sold by 7-Eleven and its subsidiaries A-Plus, Speedway, and Stripes Convenience Stores. It was originally invented in 1958 by Omar Knedlik, a Dairy Queen owner, after his soda machine broke and he began placing bottles of soda in the freezer to keep them cold, leading to the idea of frozen soda product. The first machine was built from a car air conditioning unit and the product eventually became known as ICEE. 7-Eleven licensed the machine — a soda machine and an ice cream freezer all in one that adds carbonation while freezing the mixture — from Knedlik under the condition that they use another brand name and that they are only sold at 7-Eleven.
