Why It's In The Canon
The value here is in watching a typeface earn its keep in an environment that punishes decoration. Hospitality typography fails in predictable ways — either retreating to forgettable neutrals or overreaching with character until legibility breaks at room-number scale. What makes this worth archiving is how the type choices navigate that tension: weight selection, spacing at environmental size, how letterforms hold against material and texture and poor light. No specimen sheet shows you this. A PDF is not a corridor wall.
Type-in-use cases teach a specific lesson that matters directly to anyone building design systems for digital products: the gap between how a typeface performs in controlled editorial conditions versus how it reads when context fights back. Platform UI, wayfinding, ambient signage, hero type — all the same problem of translation. Study the hierarchy decisions here. Study what they did not do. Look at whether the system collapses when the content changes, or whether it was built with enough structure to absorb it. The restraint, or absence of it, is the real instruction. A canon of type-in-use examples is a canon of decisions under pressure, and this one belongs.
