Some very confident-looking projects this week, with work from Saint Paul, Beijing, and London. Nopalera by Abby Haddican Studio Nopalera — founded by musician and activist Sandra Velasquez — is a bath and body care line of products that use nopal cactus — hence the name — as its main ingredient. The identity, designed by Saint Paul, MN-based Abby Haddican Studio, honors the founder’s Mexican heritage and the bad-ass-edness of the nopal with a Nopalera priestess icon that “represents the strength, beauty, and wisdom of the ancestors” that has a strong, stoic presence accentuated by a cactus-shaped head piece which, when written out in a sentence, sounds kind of odd but is quite excellent in its execution.
