A very diverse range of design approaches this week, with work from Paris, Hong Kong, and Guadalajara. Datura by Brand Brothers Datura is a micro coffee roaster based in Paris, France, offering a curated selection from bean producers around the world. The identity, designed by Paris-based Brand Brothers, introduces a funky wordmark that although I am not sure what it is referencing – coffee beans? moons? nothing? — is a pretty unique design that almost magically is able to add a crescent-moon-like opening to the round letters and seamlessly integrate the straight “t” and “r” characters. It’s worth looking at a flat, straight-up version of it to get a better sense of its rhythm. The one slightly questionable thing is the second “a” where the left-side opening was shortened to fit with
